About Us

Sangmin Pak is a Computer Science, Earth Science, and Special Education teacher at Richmond Hill High School in Queens, New York. She’s the Director of the Software Engineering Pathway at her school. She is also a former NASA Climate Change Research Initiative educator. Sangmin holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies, an M.Ed., and an Advanced Certificate in Computer Science Education. Lily K. Donaldson is the Planetarium Instructor at Virginia Beach City Public Schools. She is also middle school Computer Science and Technology Education teacher. Lily holds a B.S. in Computer Science from American University and a PhD in Architectural Sciences from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.   • Sangmin and Lily met at NASA’s Climate Change Research Initiative (CCRI)! CCRI is a year-long NASA program that has high school educators and graduate students work together on a research project related to Climate Change under the leadership of a NASA scientist. The research team includes undergraduate and high school interns in the summer session. You can learn more about our CCRI project “Deciphering Changing Probabilities of Extreme Climate Events in Climate Models and Measurements” on our project website, and you can learn more about CCRI (including how to apply) on the NASA GISS website
  • Sangmin and Lily hosted an In-Flight Education Downlink with NASA at Richmond Hill High School last March. In-Flight Education Downlinks are large events where students Q&A with astronauts live onboard the International Space Station. You can apply for a Downlink during the next ISS expedition on the NASA Downlink website.
